Lots of hand wringing about line-up issues lately

I started surfing in 1973 and quickly realized that the "A" spots are filled with lots of guys just waiting to give you crap, so I've spent my surfing life trying to avoid the crowds and surfing the "B" spots with a couple friends and enjoying the sport rather than the testosterone bunch. Here on the Cape, it's getting more crowded every year and harder to avoid the crowds, but I'd still rather ride mush than get in the middle of the lineup BS.
I do recall one session when the local hotshot gave me crap for nothing more than watching me fall off in the whitewater after a closeout on a big spring day and called me out in front of the crowd. He pissed me off, and I made a point of getting in position to grab every set wave I could and shut the loud mouth up. That felt good, but I'd still rather enjoy a mellow crowd with some like minded friends.
