I've been digging around this week for reviews on the SIMSUP.  Here are a couple that I've found.

Strange to see SUP at Steamers, usually just competitions.  I have very seldom seen them out there when there is not a SUP specific event.

Don't know if "best board" is always right, because it's what is the best for a particular individual, at a particular time, in a particular type of water/surf.

Without having surfed either brand, from what i gather these two boards surf completely different but represent their specific surfing modalities very well.

From what I have read SIMSUPs generally surf skatey with a real short board feel on mushy knee to head waves. Some say bigger. And Rawson's traditionally are for chargin and carvin cleaner chest to OH+ swell.

A GREAT 2 BOARD QUIVER IMHO

PM mrbig on all things Rawson  :)

freetobeme,

I might be contacting Kirk next week if all goes well in the water for me this weekend.  Did you demo one before you ordered?  Did you work with Kirk through the process?  What's the construction?  How much do you weigh? Give some deets!

Nice. No I've never been on any SIMSUP design but I trust the 2-3 year development, my trustee ZONERS and my athletic prowess  ;D.

Construction is with S glass.

"Working with Kirk" was easy. Just emailed my thoughts, goals and deets. Then he took over like a good pro knows how/when to do. After a few tweeks got my invoice and dropped the 200 deposit. Now I wait.

Btw I am 39, 5'9 180lbs. SUP raced 3 years. SUS 1 year total. Learned to surf on 9'2 now have an 8'8. Play hockey, workout, yoga, Krav Maga, snowboard, mountain bike on the reg.

as i trust my naish hokua gt 9´5 for all conditions, i think SImSUP is perfect to complete my quiver in mushy waves and going smaller.

I´ll get in touch with famous Kirk and see how he could send this board to uruguay!!

I don't think Pat Rawson had to wait the full 8 weeks for his L41 SimSup.

SUPalon

no real experience surfing either boards yet (unfortunately) , but wanted to add a little more details about the Rawson production SUP from Focus. Rawson SUPs are based on Mo Freitas customs, so yes , rail to rail top to bottom and bottom to top surfing in good quality waves, if you want to get vert and hit the lip this board will take you there.
The surprising thing is how well these boards are working in sub par waves, those pics that Mr. Big posted were taken in Israel, were I'm from, and I spend a month every year surfing the med almost every day, the surf is usually a gutless mess and there are lot of Rawsons in the water and it's very cool to see people on them taking on close out, gutless messy chop and proceed to shredding it to bits. What I keep hearing is race car speed and handling, real shortboard feeling SUP.
But again these are high performance shapes built to perform, the stability built in to them is relative, so if you need more stability you'll need to go up in size /length, if you want stability and performance in a small package go with the simsup.

To summarize  SimSups are short but yet stable user friendly, work extremely well is small mushy wave, but the right shape and the right rider can make them work in bigger surf.

Rawsons are high performance shapes, but with good balance and skills  can work also work in smaller lesser quality waves.

Some one all ready said it,  the two will make one hell of a quiver..;)
