That's an oldie but a goodie. The shark is "fluffy", and he/she hung around San Onofre for quite a while. I surfed with him as did a few hundred other people. Literally shared a wave--I went right, he went left.  Wasn't anything like seven feet, more like four, but it is a White, for sure.

This is one video I didn't show my wife. She enjoys paddling out at SanO, when we get down there.  Funny how she didn't have any problem at Kanaha last December, even after someone spotted a tiger in the line up.  Waves were pretty fun that day and after it was spotted quite a few people left.
Encounters like this help me feel better about whats under me.  Not that it really matters.  if there are waves, I will paddle out.  Hell I drive 25,000 miles a year, and i think thats more dangerous.

There are a few that hang out on the SanO/Trails area.  Only surfed Trails 3 times, and 2 times had a encounters (Although one of those times was a surfer telling others he just saw one swimming under him, so maybe that doesn't count).  I haven't seen seen them at SanO, I get the feeling they avoid the rocky reef areas.  If you paddle out past the reef you might get to see one.  The irony is that video of Chuck kept me from surfing SanO for a long time.  Now, after seeing a few close up, the chance of an encounter gets me excited to surf Trails.  Although I do try to spend as much time on top of the water as I can there.

Sharks don't really avoid any particular place. The kinds that sleep do so in cracks in the reef, overhangs and caves. Ninety nine percent harmless, but it's that darned 1 percent.
