I love old magazines. Way fun to go through. Along with the lesson on poisoning a lake, other pages, 190-197 and 225-227 caught my eye in this one. Heck the whole thing.
Wanna cry or at the very least shake your head? Find one with classifieds in the back with real estate. Especially Florida but about anywhere. Even from the mid to late 80's for Montana land will make you cry but it is just plain ridiculous to see something from the 50's or 60's and what they were giving it away for then. Seems more like homesteading looking at some of them.

I have a bunch starting in the late 30's. I love the ads....and we think people are bullshitting now! DIY perpetual motion machines..... ;)

One of the articles is about a slow speed Helioplane that could take off at an 18 deg angle. I used to fly with my old boss in his Helio Courier which was it's predecessor. It was a tail dragger, with an extra wide wing span, a roll cage and a glide speed of 35 mph. Considered one of the safest planes to fly. Not a fast plane, and you needed a kidney belt for the thermals, but the vertical landings bouncing in on the 3 points were always fun...
