Do you think it's safe to surf in the rain in SoCal now?

I'm thinking that enough water has washed through our area to make it so that runoff is not so polluted.  I know dirty runoff is not a so much of a problem in places that get a lot of rain.  Around here, where we get so little, rain brings all of the garbage from inland to the ocean.  But I'm wondering if the huge amount of rain we have received has temporarily mitigated that problem by cleaning things out.  I'm thinking it has.  Opinions?

Nothing scientific but I feel the same way.  When it hasn't rained in a month or more I avoid the water after a heavy soak, but now I am thinking it's not nearly as bad.

Avoid anything too far south though!  143 Million gallons of sewage from our Mexican friends

No problem where I surf...
I am far enough away from major flows that it is pretty dispersed
at my spot..
Although I do seem to have an ear that is irritated..

Either way, if it is flat I use more discretion than when it is firing...
Risk/Reward Ratio...

I still wouldn't go out during, or right after a rain event. But the time I wait now is shorter. I went out Thursday, a day after a rain, into ugly brown water, that smelled OK. It was totally blown out and not worth it, but I needed a fix.

I duno; you're not that far from the inlet that drains all that bird poop.

I think it's OK as long as you can't see a lot of run-off entering the area where you surf. Obviously don't surf the river mouths, lagoon outlets like Cardiff, Tourmaline sewer drain or Imperial Beach.

Waves were not epic yesterday, but it was clear, warm, calm and sunny  very nice day just to be out catching waves in Cardiff; today the wind is 15 -20 kts, I'm headed out to play in the wind/ whitewash in a surf kayak.  Tomorrow morning might be OK for SUP surf before the next storm blows in.

Of course right after I say it's probably OK we get ~3 inches of rain here in SD.  Rained for 24 hrs Monday and yesterday all of North County looked like chocolate milk.  Maybe just soil/silt but I sure wasn't going in there ;)

Yuk,,,doesn't sound good for the San Diego people. It actually would be funny if the spill were in the Potomac River instead of the Tijuana.

Nope  not a chance. The water here in Carlsbad looks like the brown color  you get when you drink the water in mexico.

Some virus from the sting ray poop too I hear...

If sting rays are good for anything, I can't think of it.
