Fone Sk8 vs SS

Enjoy the ease of use and performance of the Fone Seven Seas Foils. Smallest foil for SS is 1000 but would like one smaller for heavier winds. Sk8 has a similar aspect ratio and comes in sizes less than 1000. Knowing that there is more to foil performance than area and aspect ratio, can anyone make an educated guess as to how the performance of a foil with a Seven Seas design with the same area would differ from the smaller Sk8 sizes, say an 850. Assume the stabilizers and fuselage lengths are the same.

What are you riding now? what application is it for? what's your weight?

Use would be riding wind swell at 170 pounds when winds are over 20 knots. Sk8 seems to be advertised best for turns on a wave face, which I would not be doing. But would like a foil designed like a SS. This would complement a SS 1200.

It seems that you like how the SS feel and you're not going to play on the face of the wave so what's missing in your current setup. Are you overpowered and breaching?

Correct. Breaching when the wind is strong.

For me there is a huge difference between the 1000 and 1200, so much I don't like winging the 1000 as the low end is way more work.  Going straight without waves and breaching, especially on the 1000, I have yet to feel this on a higher aspect foil.

Are you riding strapped and can't move your feet?  Short mast?
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

I was thinking the same. What is your mast length? Aluminum or Carbon?

Riding strapped with a 95 cm carbon mast. Very balanced foot pressure but with strong wind and decent size  chop it seems like the increase in lift is sometimes too much to control by increasing front foot pressure.

I would try the C200 tail if you're still riding the 250. The difference was quite noticeable for me.
If you are on the C200 and still have issues, try 0.5 degree negative shim to reduce lift.

I'd remove the straps while figuring out the balance. What board are you on btw?

Thank you for that advice, Burchas. Will experiment with the 200 tail. Am riding a rocket s 70 liter.

Hi 'Foiled Again',
I weigh 162lbs, 73 kg,  and use the SS1400 as my low wind Foil with a 5m Naish ADX, it gets quite 'lifty' at around 20 knots, but it gets on foil early!
When I change down to a 4m wing (around 20 knots) I have the Skate 950, which I really like!    it has excellent glide, and carves and turns are really precise and can be tight, I'm surprised how low the stall speed is once on foil.      For a while I wondered if I should have bought the Skate 850, ( to be more cool!!) but the loss of bottom end and ease of use would have been pointless.
Hope that helps?      p.s. the SK8 is definitely fast.
