Supuk,

I´m in the same boat as you, but dont have the blank yet..

Been some earlier posts about this. Its the sumberged volume you have to consider- not the total volume.
If you design it in 3D shape you can position the waterline and get calculation of underwater volume.
Remember to calculate with boardweight and fully outfitted rider- i would add some kgs to account for water on deck.

Stability is increased if volume increases as board tilts.

I´m thinking 16ft x 26" - Not longer because of fixed fin/rudder. and want to make a lower profile deck shape-
Bark Competitor 12-6
Fanatic Allwave 9-2
Naish Keiki 9-0

If you are downwinding the rudder might be really needed on a unlimited, but neither Rob Rojas or Thomas Maximus use one on there 19' boards. I wouldn't stop at 16', if you're making an unlimited go for it......

ok so theres been no real progress yet in shaping it as i have been to busy and im still weighting to get my hands on or make a bunch of trestles to support it when shaping but im wondering are there any tips of the trade for shaping such a monster totally by hand to keep things straight and true especially as its stringerless? im wondering about getting a little laser or something so as to have a centreline reference the hole time?

Supuk,
You may have seen my post from over a year ago on my shaping method already, but if you haven't, here it is. www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=14206.0 . I'm remodelling my unlimited right now, so I'm just going to extend the box I used for my SUS board. You should hot wire your shape first (or hand saw), then router out the rocker. You can insure an even thickness with the router box method. The templates make a nice guide when it gets to free handing shaping. I have an electric planer that I've used on wood for 30 years, but the foam is so soft, I prefer not to use it. Good luck...

yea i saw that last year defiantly a cool idea but i think it may be a little harder on such a large scale? i like it alot though and maybe is a cool way to get some nice almost cnc accurate outlines and rockers.

luckily i am only really going to have to do a little work on the rocker as the foam block actual has almost a perfect bend in it from when it was cut from the larger block so i am only going to have to cut the deck. i have a hot wire that goes the hole width so i can template the outline. im just a little worried that ones its all shaped its going to be come a bit like a noodle and end up bending out of shape? maybe im just worrying to much. hopefully i can get on and cut the template out tonight i think using the outline you gave me and then get on and get the foam cut on the weekend only problem being the temperature has drooped into the 30's and i need to get a decent heater for the garage as it not nice working in a fridge!
