Supping on a 5'4"!

(Sorry for the low resolution)

Wondering how much Vanina weighs
I think I can go for a 6'6
Cardiff's Carbon 7'7 floats me with plenty of room to spare
Have to look into the differences since she is riding and actual surfboard not a shrunken SUP but it would be a much cheaper option!
This is where being small pays off!!

She probably weights 85 pounds but that would be so cool to ride a little board instead of the big ass 9'-6" thing I'm schlepping around in the surf, and especially considering I was never into surfing longboards anyway. I really want one of those sup sims so at least I could drop down to about 8'.

Laird 'Hybrid Surfer' 9-6 x 28 x 125 liters

PVC sandwich with carbon is way strong and light.  Over 20 years ago I had a 10 lb. sailboard around 80 liters that had the lightweight EPS core, PVC sandwich with some carbon construction.  The shape was all about speed and the thing would just haul ass and sky the jumps on the Columbia.  It never snapped but it eventually got soft under the heels. That board was so hard on the body that I could hardly walk the next morning.

Rode some glass boards(Clark foam/polyester resin) soon again afterwards, but now they felt heavy and they didn't last very long.  The good thing was that the body wasn't getting worn down.  I moved on soon to full kevlar, direct-sized S glass and epoxy over Clark foam with a PVC sandwich bottom.  The weight dropped a touch but the durabilty had gone crazy on all levels.  I could toss the board out of the truck and onto the pavement and then drag it on over to the grass where the sail was with no worries.

Board constructions have evolved even more now.  Some things haven't changed as much.  Smaller boards still rock when the conditions are on.  A lightweight board is also addicting.  I really don't need a board to endure a full toss onto the pavement anymore.  It just needs to endure all the regular stuff nicely and still have that smooth ride tuned in.

Thick beaks on all those boards.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

Anyone know what type of pad Vanina chopped up to put on that board? Looks similar to what Zane Schweitzer had on his board in one of these videos. Looks cool. Think I could just chop up an X-Trac to do something like that?

Yes, or any kind of pad. That's a common setup on the islands, from what I've seen.

I got ahold of one to demo. A tad small for me, but it might float well. Its ridiculously light, 4.5 lbs.
Wax is needed, just like a normal board.

Has anyone noticed what kind of paddle Vanina is using on the picture above? looks like the blade/shaft connection point is lowered on the blade.

I know that this is a dumb question... but what do surfboards normally weigh? Never put one on a scale.

My short board is 11lbs w pad and fins. 6'8x22"x3"
Taller than most, shorter than others.

My 10-0 x 24" wide 3-5/8" thick triple redwood stringer Dewey Weber stylist weighs in at a manly 25 pounds, making my sup a joy to schlep around.  I pity the fool unlucky enough to have that plank slap them across the melon.  I love that board so much.

I also have the 2014 catalog in .pdf format. Private Message me your email address if you'd like to see it. Progressive new designs on the way!

CS, Is the "active carbon stringer" going be in the sup model too or just the surfboard for now?
