Any feed back on this board for a heavier rider in larger California surf.  I weight 225 and currently ride the 9'3" Sub Vector which I really like.  When the waves get overhead and bumpy at a favorite reef I surf the 9'3" starts to feel like I'm on a potatoe chip and too small.  I have tried the 12 footer PSH but felt it was a little too big for the conditions.

Or should I hold out for the new PSH 10'8" gun ripper?  Leaning towards the 10'8".

Thank You!

NCBA

I have both boards. I've only surfed the 10' once. The 9'3'' is a little more stable, especially if you need to knee paddle some. They both seem to have about the same volume. The 10' is considerable a faster paddler with a litte more nose rocker. The 10' would be great in big surf. I suggest you get one.

I have the 9'3", 9"6' and the 10". For below head high waves, I use the 9'3", head high to double overhead, the 9'6", Over double overhead I go for the 10" or my 12" Jimmy Lewis gun. I really like the drive on the 9'6" and 10". I use Gerry Lopez quads or thurster set. I'm 195# but had my 9"3" when I was 230 and had no problems with it. I'm also waiting on a 9"10" PSH ripper and a 12" PSH gun. Those should be delivered next week. No word on the 10'8" PSH delivery date but it's on my Santa's list. Hope this helps.

I have the 9'3" and 10' SV and the 10' is amazing.  It works really well for me and I'm really happy with it.  I had it out today in small but juicy surf on Maui's north shore and the board works exceptionally well.  Stable, fast, turny.  It feels light.  It has a lot of rocker, can make late drops and doesn't pearl easily.   It's hard to imagine hearing a bad review of this board.  i'd be very curious to know if anyone *doesn't* like it and why.

Aloha!

  Thank you for the responses.

Mauiguy...how much do you weigh?  I find that interesting NCBA that you find the 9'3" more stable than the 10 footer?  This confuses me?    I love the 9'3" but becomes too small for me in larger bumby surf conditions.

The perfect board would be one that gets in the wave early and down the face quick but holds in the tube and is stable at my weight in choppy bumby conditions.  I was thinking the PSH 10'8" would be more stable and better in bigger surf than the 10 footer.  What do I know?

I'm 210-215lbs and 6'2", I've had my 10' sv for a month or so. I've only been able to take it out in small conditions the best being at a punchy bar break which was waist to chest height at best. There was a lot of side chop and I found the 10' to be very stable and paddled through it well enough. I took a few late take offs but the board caught the waves with ease and was very forgiving. I like the speed of the board it isn't sluggish like a few other boards I've ridden. I also found the board very easy to throw around it is very responsive...it surfs great. I have also ridden it in knee high slop and it went well in that too. I await to see how it goes in the slow and not very powerful waves that I get at my local...when it finally breaks again!

I wouldn't want to paddle the 10' sv over any distance though as due to it's rocker it does tend to push water a bit. I've paddled it say 500-1000m to and from a break and that was ok but wouldn't want to go much further at my weight on this model.

But all in all I'm very impressed with this board.

Lopezwill,

I have had the same experience as Kagey.  I weigh 225-230 and also owned a 9'3 SV that I liked alot.

If you like the SubVector design, you get more paddle power and a better surfing design . While it doesn't "fit" into smaller places like that 9'3, it surfs shorter than 10' due to the rocker.

I have surfed it in overhead wind swell chop and found it to be more stable than my 9'3 with added paddle power. That combination proved to turn crappy conditions into something  entertaining. I like the SV 10' so much that I sold my SV 9'3 to my buddy.

If you are around south OC, I would be happy to let you test ride.
